Zen

I posted this on fb but I'll post it here too. You know you need a vacation if you find yourself drawing zen patterns in the kitty litter while scooping the turds out. I found myself sitting on the floor just spacing out and drawing patterns and realized I need a real vacation.

Lists!

This place has not seen a lot of action lately.  I can understand why - LJ itself is being abandoned by many for other blogging platforms, Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook and all other social media.  But what I like about LJ is the sense of community; you can almost always find someone with the same interests as you just by joining in a community of something you're interested in.  And that's why I don't want to see this place go under... and I'm too old to change my ways!

With that in mind, I'm going to attempt to get some conversation (little though it may be) rolling:

How do you keep track of your daily/weekly/monthly tasks?  Or do you?  I'm a list girl.  I love a good list.  Most of the time I write it out because it's handy, and there's something very satisfying about crossing something off the list.  For larger projects or events though I have become quite taken with an app called Paperless.  I have several lists in there that are constantly changing (for example: "Things to do around the house" for home improvements, "Things to mend", "Crafty" for projects I'm working on or would like to start up one day).

How do you keep on track?

Spring is Here!! (sort of)

Spring is finally here!  Well, when I say it's 'here', I mean that it's supposed to be spring and it kind of looks like it for the most part... except that we're supposed to be getting snow again tomorrow.  Drat.

Anyway, I was just wondering what kind of springtime goodness you're getting into around your house?  I'm looking forward to getting out in the garden (we re-arranged a few things in the fall so I'm hoping everything moved ok).  We have a small vegetable garden that I look forward to planting with our kids.  There's nothing quite like home grown vegetables for the summer!

I've also been trying to knock out a few simple projects inside as well, while it's still sort of mucky outdoors.  I recently painted the paneling in our basement and I'm hoping to give the walls and cupboards in our laundry room a quick coat of paint as well in the near future.  I've also made some seat covers for our dining room (a must for us since the kids tend to make a bit of a mess when they eat), hung more pictures on our picture wall, hemmed some curtains and done a few minor repairs around the house (you know those little jobs that for some reason just get put off).

What have you been up to lately?  Any little projects that you've been able to cross off your list?

Cupcakes! Now 150% more aquatic and mermaid-ish!

Because two of my favourite things happen to be a) baking and b) mermaids & related aquatic/marine stuff (whales, dolphins, the Loch Ness monster, pearls, seashells, Atlantis/Lemuria/Mu, giant squid, Cthulhu, jellyfish, Spongebob, sharks, pirates, etc), i decided to combine the two. One box of plain white cake, 2 packs of blue & green food colouring, one jar of candy pearls, one tube of blue icing and one tube of white icing later....
Yaaay! Baked goods that even Cthulhu would love!Collapse )

HOLIDAY TRADITIONS

Somehow November snuck up on us already and it's time to start planning what we are going to cook this year for any and all of the special events we are attending.

Do any of you have any absolute favorite recipes you wish to share with the rest of us?

Lost in Space

I guess I have been busy, under a rock, lost in space, completely oblivious to what is going on in the world... but when did the stamps go up to 45 cents??

I wish life were not so hectic right now. It's only going to get worse :(

Dust

I noticed one huge difference, living in the Sacramento Valley, the dust was EPIC. I could not keep up with the dusting, it permeated every thing and every crevice within my home. I would give up in disgust and let the dusting go till my sneezing fits got to be too much to handle.

Now, living in the Midwest again, my apartment hardly has any dust. I can go about ten days and there's still nothing built up on my black bookshelves and surfaces. I'm quite mystified at the difference and ohhhhh sooooo happy about it. I guess the lack of humidity and living in the middle of vineyards was the main culprit in California.

I miss quite a few things about living in California but I don't miss those prolific dust bunnies, they were ankle biters.

For now... till this blows over, I am putting this community on CAPTCHA. It seems I can not moderate the posts unless it's a paid account.

I've been an absent admin for far too long due to some unforeseen circumstances but slowly coming back to Live Journal. Time to clean house :D

Lovely

We seem to be under attack by the Russian spammers. Sorry about all the garbage, I'm cleaning it as fast as it appears, hopefully.
